The Port of Seattle Fire Department is pleased to welcome our most recent fire academy graduates. We would like to introduce you to Firefighters Kroshko, Werner, Mulligan, and Geissel. (pictured above, from left to right)
Firefighter Kroshko says 'joining the fire service has been a lifelong dream for me, driven by a deep desire to serve the public and make a tangible difference in people's lives. The sense of camaraderie and purpose I felt when I completed a previous fire academy through EVCC affirmed my decision. Married to my supportive wife, and proud father to our son, my family's encouragement has been a cornerstone in my journey. Academy training has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to new physical and mental limits while fostering essential skills. The rigorous drills and coursework have strengthened my resolve and passion for this profession. I am eager to continue learning and growing, knowing that each day brings me closer to becoming a proficient and dedicated firefighter.'
We hope he shares BBQ skills with the department. He's also passionate spending time with his family, working on cars and going out to enjoy live music.
Firefighter Werner says 'I spent the last 15 years serving as a pastor in south Puget Sound. I believe that helping others in their greatest moment of need is the most fulfilling way to live your life. I’m thrilled for the opportunity to join the Port of Seattle Fire Department. It is an honor to serve alongside an incredible team of skilled, compassionate firefighters who go the extra mile to keep our Port Safe. I look forward to serving guests from our community and from all around the world.'
He is a native of Tacoma and still calls the south Sound home with his wife and their two children.
Firefighter Mulligan says 'I’ve always been passionate about helping others and enjoy staying active, which led me to pursue a career as a firefighter—a dream I’m thrilled to have realized here with all of you. Before making the transition to firefighting, I spent eight years in retail management. My journey towards this career shift also included time as a volunteer EMT with my local fire department, where I gained valuable experience and insight into the world of emergency services. These experiences have been instrumental in shaping my commitment to this field and my approach to teamwork and problem-solving.'
He and his wife share their home with two energetic dogs. They enjoy backpacking, camping and traveling.
Firefighter Geissel says 'I've dreamed of becoming a firefighter since childhood. During elementary school, I had a volunteer Big Brother who served as a firefighter. He introduced me to the fire service and encouraged my involvement in the cadet program. Although my career path initially diverged, I pursued jobs that equipped me with valuable skills and life lessons. These experiences have shaped me into someone I believe will be a strong asset to the Port of Seattle Fire Department.'
Before joining the Port of Seattle Fire Department, he spent several years working as a climbing arborist, and also worked for Seattle City Light. He lives in North Bend with his wife and their six-month-old son, where they are passionate about outdoor activities in the mountains.
